A few people walking down a lit street in Berlin at night

BERLIN · 23:40

A new city.A new language.

Hundreds of Turkish students in the same city. None of them know each other.

You hear Turkish on the U-Bahn and turn around. But you don’t say a word. In the evening you tell your family “I’m doing great.”

Far from home: a glass of tea, a new friend.

How it works

Pour a tea. If it’s mutual, your tea is brewed.

  1. Verify that you’re a student. With your university email or your student card. Our team approves Turkish students one by one.
  2. See Turkish students in Discover. In your city, your country or all of Europe.
  3. Pour a glass of tea for someone you like.If they pour one back, a chat opens. If not, nobody ever knows.

The teapot

Every day you get 5 glasses of tea. The teapot refills at midnight.

Common ground

Your hometown, your university, the things you love. When you match, the first topic is already there.

Icebreaker

“Where did you have the best tea in Berlin?” No need to agonise over the first message.

Play

Meet over a game, pour a tea after the match.

Play a round of backgammon. Before the game you see which city your opponent lives in and where they’re from. Get matched with someone from your own city or from anywhere in Europe.

Friendship pledge

I promise not to flirt on Chaya and not to use the app like a dating app.

Everyone who joins Chaya signs this pledge. Calling ourselves a friendship app isn’t enough; we keep it that way together.

×Counts as flirting

  • I really like you
  • You’re so attractive
  • I’d love to take you on a date

✓Doesn’t count as flirting

  • What are you studying?
  • Fancy a coffee on campus?
  • Are you going to the match this weekend?
  • Verified student

A code sent to your university email verifies you instantly. If your university email doesn’t accept outside mail, you upload your student card instead.

  • Approved Turkish student

Our team reviews every profile one by one. Until you’re approved, your tea is still brewing and you don’t appear in Discover.

  • Report flirting

Tap the three dots in a chat and choose “Report flirting”. The person you report never sees it, and our team reviews the chat right away.

  • Ghost mode

Step off the map whenever you like. Block and report are one tap away on every profile.
